The Power of Being Yourself
The only true road to success includes being yourself. It takes some of us a lifetime to learn, but there is real power in being ourselves, for that is what we were designed to be.
So if you are a writer at heart, but you spend your days behind a desk at an "office job" just to get health insurance coverage, you're essentially giving away your power. You are denying your true self. If you are a born salesman, yet you're working in HR, you're missing your true calling.
We can do better than that. I'm sure Bill Murray had every opportunity early in his adult life to give up and "play it safe." But he didn't, and the world is a better place for it. Jim Furyk is one of the highest earning golf professionals of all time, yet his swing is far from "technically sound." In fact, his swing is totally unique in pro golf. Furyk's career is largely due to the fact that his early coaches knew better than to "fix" a swing that came naturally to him. Jim is being himself with every swing of the club.
Don't play it safe. Don't try to be someone you are not. There is tremendous power in being yourself. Wouldn't life be endlessly more interesting and rewarding if we relentlessly honored our true selves? I think so.
